Piolets d’or

They aim to share mountaineering with the widest possible audience and, to that end, highlight adventures undertaken in a fascinating natural environment, where mountaineers seek fulfillment grounded in sportsmanship, respect for the natural environment and local cultures, in accordance with the principles set forth in the Piolets d’Or Charter.
More than just recognition of a performance, the Piolets d’Or celebrate a commitment, a spirit, and values. The spirit of the Piolets d’Or draws its inspiration from the history of mountaineering and the authenticity of the climbing team spirit. Style must take precedence over the achievement of the objective. It is no longer about reaching the summit at any cost, by resorting to financial or technical aids (oxygen, fixed ropes, high-altitude porters, “performance-enhancing” substances, etc.) or significant human resources (high-altitude porters, sherpas). The Piolets d’Or celebrate imagination in the search for innovative routes, the most economical use of resources, the application of experience, and respect for people and nature. They are committed to making mountaineering a shared and globally valued asset, capable of uniting the best of human ambition around moral values and exemplary conduct.

On the program:
- Wednesday, October 21: Base camp in St. Christophe with a themed evening: “Living with Risk in the Mountains.” Perspectives on innovation and the revitalization of tourism in the Haut-Vénéon region.
- Thursday, October 22: Themed evening: “A Brief History of Mountaineering in Oisans”
- Friday, October 23: During the day: Advanced camp at Les Pièces du Clot: trade show with exhibitors, book signings, discussions, and presentations of award-winning ascents. In the evening: Piolets d’Or awards ceremony.
- Saturday, October 24: Meetings with local, national, and international figures. Discussion forum, press conference, and after-party.
