About : scientific adventure festival RENCONTRES MONTAGNES & SCIENCES
What do we know today about the La Bérarde disaster? Eighteen months after the torrential flood that ravaged this small hamlet in the Oisans region, a panel discussion will bring together scientists and film-makers to show never-before-seen footage filmed beneath the Bonne Pierre glacier, upstream from the village.
Where to see the world's largest eagle? On a snow-covered island in Japan. The magnificent documentary L'aigle d'Hokkaido follows photographer Jérémie Villet, a specialist in animals of the extreme cold, in search of this rare bird.
How did science discover the peculiarities of the high-altitude world? Thanks to Joseph Vallot! Broadcast for the first time in a festival, the film Les lumières de Vallot tells the story of this great scientist, who at the end of the 19th century built an observatory just below the summit of Mont Blanc, still used today by researchers.
Can we purify the water flowing from glaciers? This is the dream of the inhabitants of a valley in Peru, since the retreat of the glaciers has led to acidification of the torrents that are their only source of drinking water. Dreaming of pure water shows how populations can rely on science to cope with the effects of climate change.
