He's a guy who wants it all. He wants to do it all, all at the same time, and then on his own... 'He's got to get that mast up, he needs it. It's his reference point, his compass, his crutch?
And there's the trumpet too. He holds on to it, he blows on it, he shines on it, but he's not going to let go of his mast. He's got to hold it together. It's his challenge, his game.
He tries. He tries lots of things. He taps the metal, rubs the rubber, it sounds! He wants to play everything, but he can't figure out how, so he cheats. He loops and misses. He wears himself out......and it makes him smile..."
